Black History Month Assembly 2022

One of my greatest experiences would be directing my high school's Black History Month Assembly. Every year a club in my high school called Advancing Cultural Equality/Equity and Success (ACES) puts on a Black History Month Assembly. Last year I was the President of ACES so the duty of directing the assembly fell up on me. I had always participated in the assemblies so I knew it would be fun, but I never knew how much hard work went into directing and planning it. Lucky for me I had a great executive council to back me up. Planning was the hardest part of the whole process. There were so many ideas and possibilities to choose from but unfortunately we had a budget and a forty-five minute time limit. We had eventually narrowed everything down to what topic/subtopics we were doing to who we were going to have as a guest speaker. Next, were the practices and final run throughs. This step was pretty rough, because we had a lot of people joining and then quitting. And to top it all off, half of our participants (including me) got sick from either Covid or something else. However, after all of that we put on our show and it went off without a hitch. Everyone remembered their parts and the audience loved it. And better yet they got to experience a small bit of black history. Throughout this whole experience I learned how to be a better leader and a better delegator, which are things I have struggled with in the past. While this was one of the most stressful experiences of my life I would do it again in a heartbeat.
