My Honors Experience was an unforgettable two-month study abroad in Munich, Germany, through an exchange program with Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) through their MISU program. The program included a month-long internship at M94.5, a radio station, followed by a month-long international business class at LMU.
The internship at M94.5 was my first professional experience in college, and while I was initially nervous, the station's welcoming and creative atmosphere quickly put me at ease. The people I worked with were supportive and encouraged me to explore my interests. I had the opportunity to write about topics that excited me, push beyond my comfort zone, and even go on air. This experience allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. Following the internship, I took an international business class at LMU. Although the course was outside my major, I found it challenging and appreciated the chance to learn about an unfamiliar subject.
This entire trip was a big step outside my comfort zone. I’ve always been resistant to change, so the idea of traveling to Germany, a country where I was unfamiliar with the culture and language, was daunting. However, I’m incredibly grateful I pushed through my fears. While abroad, I immersed myself in a new culture, enjoyed the local food, learned to navigate the U-Bahn, and connected with people from around the world. I also traveled throughout Europe, visiting places like Berlin, London, Switzerland, and Austria, and even attended concerts by some of my favorite artists like Coldplay and Adele.
This experience taught me that stepping out of my comfort zone opens doors to extraordinary opportunities and deepened my understanding of what it means to be a global citizen scholar.
